Cancellation Policy
Last Modified: May 5, 2026
This Cancellation Policy describes how to cancel a Start My Protocol engagement or its ongoing managed-service component. It is read alongside the signed MSA / SOW for each engagement and our Refund Policy.
1. Implementation engagements
Once an MSA / SOW is signed, the implementation engagement is in motion. You may cancel at any time before launch by giving written notice to build@startmyprotocol.com. Cancellation has the following effects:
- The 50% deposit is non-refundable (see Refund Policy).
- Any work already performed beyond the deposit and not yet invoiced will be billed at the SOW rate up to the cancellation date.
- You retain ownership of all work-product produced for you up to the cancellation date, on full payment of fees due.
2. Managed service — monthly
You may cancel a monthly managed-service subscription at any time by giving written notice. Cancellation stops future billing. You retain access until the end of the current monthly period; no refund is issued for the unused portion of that period.
3. Managed service — annual / 12-month commit
The default managed-service term is a 12-month commitment beginning at launch. Early termination by the client during the commitment period does not relieve the obligation to pay for the remaining months of the term, except in the case of material, uncured breach by Protocol (see Section 5). At the end of the initial 12-month term the agreement renews on a month-to-month basis unless either side gives 30 days' written notice of non-renewal.
4. Bespoke and retainer engagements
Tier 2 (Bespoke Engineering) and Tier 3 (Strategic Engagement) engagements run for the term stated in the SOW. They may be cancelled with the notice period specified there — typically 30 days for retainers and the project-end date for bespoke builds. Fees for work performed up to the cancellation date are due.
5. Termination for cause
Either side may terminate any engagement immediately on written notice if the other materially breaches the agreement and fails to cure the breach within 30 days of receiving notice. In that case, fees for work performed up to the termination date remain due, and we will reasonably assist with handover within the limits of our remaining capacity.
6. How to cancel
Send written notice to build@startmyprotocol.com from the email address on the engagement record. We will confirm receipt and the effective cancellation date within five (5) business days. If you do not receive confirmation, follow up — we will not treat unconfirmed notices as effective.
7. Data and handover
On cancellation, we will provide a reasonable handover window (typically 30 days) during which you can export your data and we can transfer brand assets, configuration, and documentation. Beyond that window we may delete data and retired infrastructure as part of our normal data-retention practices, subject to applicable law.
